Finding Inspiration In Life is Essential in Recovery
What do you find inspiring? What thrills you? What gives you that adrenaline rush or excitement? If you can't think of anything besides substances, it is time to reach out of your comfort zone and experience some new things.
Think back to your childhood, were there things you did that you enjoyed? Why don't you still do them? We aren't suggesting you do things that are dangerous or stupid. But rather you use your imagination and get back to the things you used to enjoy when you were younger. Maybe it was riding your bike? Consider riding competitively. Maybe you skied or played soccer. You get the point. If you can no longer do something you love because of physical limitations than can you teach it to others? Whatever you decide to do, get properly trained, wear protective gear and be safe!
The things that bring you joy may not be adrenaline producing, they may be calming. Yoga, pilates, art, cooking, etc. That is great. Go on a yoga retreat in Bali, become a pilates instructor. Reach for the stars!
