How to Crave Sobriety

 YOUr Best Sober Life

If you have never tried to reduce your alcohol consumption, then HAMS or MM might be a good place to start. Keep in mind that if you consume large amounts of alcohol, it can also be dangerous to quit cold turkey and you should always seek medical help to do so.  See our video on the dangers of alcohol withdrawal on this page.

While we believe that most people with alcohol addictions probably need abstinence, that is something personal that you need to figure out for yourself. If you are already sober, we encourage you to continue with your sobriety and not try the HAMS or MM methods. However, if you have been abusing alcohol for a short period of time, then reduction and moderation may work for you.

Is Moderation Possible?

Addiction expert Dr. Adi Jaffe, author of “The Abstinence Myth,” explains how his moderation approach to treating addiction might be right for certain people.

“People need guidance and understanding, not judgment and stigma, and the sooner we realize this, the more lives we’ll be able to save.”
— DR. ADI JAFFE

We have included a link with a list of apps that will be helpful for you to use in the beginning stages of your sobriety when trying to stay sober or moderate alcohol use.

What Is The Best Method For Achieving Sobriety?

You might notice that some Facebook groups for these organizations criticize how others in those groups operate. We believe that if HAMS, AA, Celebrate Recovery, or another program offers value to you, or if something resonates and helps you improve your life and manage addiction, you should acknowledge that benefit.

Try different approaches and groups, focusing on those you find helpful. Ultimately, only you can decide what works for you, so don’t let others’ negative opinions or experiences sway your choices.

Please remember that most medications for depression, anxiety, or mood stabilization are less effective if you consume alcohol.

Please read these two articles:
